I’ve been a Duran Duran fan since I could remember. My sister was a hard-core Duranie and turned me on to these guys. So I’m going to take this demo for what it’s worth. This is a pre-Simon Le Bon demo before Duran Duran got some polish, got some tweaks, and went for being another local/regional band to a global success. Andy Wickett’s vocals are similar to Le Bon’s, but Wickett is a hell of a lot better today than back in 1979. Thank God! Duran Duran as a band still sound pretty amateurish in this demo. The lyrics are what really hold this demo together, and that’s to Wickett’s credit. But it’s still a demo recorded on equipment that was available to amateurs back in 1979. If you can keep that in mind, then you’ll enjoy listing to a few rare nuggets from Duran Duran’s past. If your standard are way too high for that, then don’t even waste your money.
  • Duran Duran gold nuggets!

This is proof of a band that evolves and rolls with the times. Totally 1979! Listen to the sound Duran Duran was cultivating, appreciate the early interplay between the four members who would soon incorporate Simon LeBon into their fold and together fine tune the Duran Duran sound with their production teams. These songs are real gold nuggets. "See Me, Repeat Me" sounds very much like the underpinnings of "Sound of Thunder", especially that bass bit at the break.

I'm a 45 year old Duranie and I've never heard Andy Wickett sing - until now. His voice complemented the music and scene at the time, but John & Nick were visionaries and replaced him with Simon. It was a treat to sing along with Girls on Film. Maybe the boys could resurrect these and rework them?

For anyone balking because Simon isn't singing here, I say "Bollocks!" to them. There are John's awesome bass lines, Roger's energetic drumming, Nick's mysterious synths, and Andy's frenetic strumming. You may not like this singer as much, but then again, neither did they. :) Appreciate this for what it wrought: a desire to be even better, thus necessitating a different singer. Enter Mr. LeBon et voila, Perfection!

I had to order this through Andy Wicket's website years back! I love these tracks! It's awesome to hear the early stages of Duran Duran before Simon was part of the band. Especially "Girls On Film"! Oh! And p.s. Please do your research before you complain! Thank you! 😇
  • Great piece of Duran Duran history

It's so very awesome to be able to hear how the band sounded before Simon LeBon and his purple leopard print pants walked into their lives. Already knowing how much their sound has progressed from their debut in 1981 thru their most recent album in 2016, it's really cool to be able to hear where they were even before the labels and screaming fans came along. I have to say I've had a good laugh at some of these other comments saying that this isn't Duran Duran simply because it was recorded before Simon joined the band. You guys do know they briefly had another singer (Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy) prior to Simon too, right? Looks like there are some Duranies out there in need of a DD history lesson.
  • Archival

Rating this good strictly on the basis that it's incredible archival material that highlights what the band will sound like in the near future. Andy Wickett's vocals make complete sense in the music landscape of 1979 but they wouldn't have lasted long if these tracks are all we have to gauge his performance. The band on these tracks is sloppy, ramshackle and rough, but perfect for its day.

For you naysayers of Andy Wickett, there’s Google. I happen to love this sound, especially the early era of Duran, so for me this EP is quite great. Never understood how so many of my fellow Duranies have a hard time with change when it comes to the boys, but I hope you will release some part of yourselves and really enjoy this music. Try to think of the time that these songs were made: The age of Joy Division, The Cure, Bowie, post punk, etc. (in fact, it has elements of all in my opinion!) It’s so good!

The previous singer was a hack. Couldn't even make it through the previews. Just awful.
