This isn’t really a dance-pop record. It errs on the side of pop-r&b. Dance pop records have catchy hooks and melodically make every person feel the same way. I understand the premise of making albums that you like and tuning out the noise, or what you call, “negativity,” except a records success is dependent on how consumers feel about it. It’s time to stop writing about the same old rhetoric. Tell us about your experiences and write from a place of pain … you know, seeing injustices in the world, and using that as your voice in your music. 143 is easily forgettable. While I like songs like “Gorgeous,” “Crush,” and “Wonder” - they’re all songs that I easily forget about. I don’t get up in the morning and say, “I want to listen to that on repeat.” You know why “Dark Horse” is a success? It’s because people LOVE Dark Pop music. Write what you want to, but find a way to get what you want out of it and WHAT the fans are asking for. Get more creative with the vocal aspects in the songs and use melodies that are mesmerizing. If you do this, it’ll be the ultimate comeback. No return to bubblegum pop … a true dance record will melodically get people on their feet.

Not sure at first about Katy Perry’s 143, but it’s slowly growing on me. A couple of the songs aren’t my taste, but I’m enjoying the journey. There again, there’s always SMILE, which I absolutely love.
