An absolutely splendid play with some of R&H's most identifiable songs (if not by melody then by their unmistakable tone). However, I must question the accuracy of information here: if this is the original cast recording of 1967, why then was the album initially released in 1957? I believe this calls for some revision.

This is the best recording of this classic musical. Everybody should have the O.B.C. in their collections. Mary Martin, Ezio Pinza, et. al. But the feel of this recording is splendid, sumptutious, and absolutely right. I wish that I'd have seen production. I bet it was beautiful.

sorry for the rhyme but this recording is amazing; beautfiul orchestrations after original Rodney Bennett's. Florence Henderson amazin soprano in great voice at her peak; Giorgio Tozzi reprising his move singing role when he dubbed Rossano Brazzi for the fim and a host of other great singers doing more than justice to this classic score. Since it's another Music Theater of Lincoln Center production cast, supervised by Richard Rodgers himself in 1967, it's as close to canonical as musicals can get. Don't miss this one or the King and I 1964 also here on iTunes. Thank you Apple and Sony for issuing these long sought after discs never before on cd or ITunes.
