It's been said that Kind of Blue is one of those albums (or rather, THE album) to intoduce to jazz newbies. Some of the tunes on this KHT outing fall in a similar realm of coaxing fine enjoyment out of jazz aficionados and newcomers alike. Beautiful Love cruises with a perfect mix of relaxation and intensity and Beatrice picks up the pace next to its usual balladish tempo. This is good jazz.
And yes, Bill Stewart's cymbal sound is worth the price of admission. :)

Kevin Hays is an underated player. He can really shred - he's got that New York sound with a lot of vocabulary. Bill Stewart is, well, amazing as usual. Weiss really rounds everything off. I first heard Hays with Mike Moreno (guitar). Great album...
Bill Stewart is amazing.

This whole effort is breathtaking. All of the players perform so well together -- but it's a crime that no one has written about Bill Stewart's drumming. His cymbal sound alone is with the price of admission. What on earth is he playing? Ziljian K's? What an artist. This entire album is a must for any fan of jazz drumming.
