There have been some outstanding recordings of this fascinating work in the past. Patrick Stewart can hold his own with Claude Rains or Jon Vickers, but Emanuel Ax is a weak entry after Glenn Gould and Marc-Andre Hamelin. Too bad Stewart didn't get a better pianist.

Quite interesting! I haven't heard of this Strauss work before so was intrigued by it. Good stuff and great performance.
