I love k. d., but why is this album so over-produced?

I have been a fan for decades, going to many, many concerts over the years. Recently I saw her sing "Thread" on a Craig Ferguson and I was mesmerized, reminded of what a powerful prescence she is on stage. Naturally, I rushed to get the new album, but when I sampled it, I was deeply disappointed by the wall of sound that overwhelmed me. k.d. has fallen victim to her own success and produces album after album of over-blown, over-orchastrated music that no longer appeals to me. Her voice is pure and gorgeous, but I am always saddened by the difference between her live performances and the recorded versions of her songs. I hope she puts out an acoustic version of this album. And I hope that someone who knows her will let her know that all the orchestration is adding nothing to her recordings, in fact, it dates them, lending them the air of an albeit high class Vegas lounge act. While many, lesser singers may need the support such orchestration offers, in her case, it only detracts from her genius.
A classic CD.

This material reminds me of Ingénue. But it's more seasoned, and the arrangements are wonderfully inventive and clearly cover more new ground. The first thoughts I had when I first put on this CD were about how much KD lang is quantum leaps above her peers.
Some who have called this CD boring may be listening on a fairly superficial level. But there are so many levels here and on all of them, there is a natural, unassuming sophistication. KD Lang often writes as if her diary or her philosophy is being set to music. So, there is a presence in her voice that goes beyond mere singing - she is spiritually present with the messages her songs impart.
This above all is what I love about KD. She intuitively knows those aspects of her inner journey that are ripe for relating through song. And thus she shares generously and unassumingly and with great love.

This is some of k.d.'s best work featuring her smooth as velvet voice and catchy arrangements. A wee bit melancholy but excellent listening while enjoying a relaxing evening. Wish there were a couple more songs on it.
Love k.d.

Like the old saying goes, she could sing the phone book and make it sound good. She has the best voice no matter what the song, genre, style etc. Saw her in concert in Palm Springs last year and couldn't wait for something new. All of my expectations have been met. Thank you k.d.

The music found here is typical KD. Wonderful, mellow music sung expressively by one of the greatest voices in music. If you are a fan already you have to check it out. If you're not a fan yet, you might be after listening to this album.

This is literally the soundtrack to my life.
This album's having a profound impact on me. The music and the well crafted lyrics make this one of K.D.'s best. The return to originals is yet again a step into the mastery. The lyrics touch as far deep into my soul as I can possibly let them. They invoke emotions like sorrow and hope simultaneously. I can only hope to communicate this level of passion in my life. K.D. continues to, and with this album even more, inspires me to try to live my life authentically and with passion.
This album is touching and profound. If you want to be moved to be a good mate, spouse, lover, etc. this is the inspiration you need!
I am devoted to you Butthead. K.D. sings the words that fill my soul. Luv....Mrs. Butthead
