This album is just so well-crafted and nuanced, I can't stop listening to it. Nublu has released a lot of great artists and albums across a huge array of styles and genres, but Wax Poetic continues to be their hub for spotlighting incredible vocalists. The band blends pure jazz with lounge-synthiness and a smokey after hours boozy vibe, then floats a layer of sexiness on top. It sounds like one of your best nights out in an unfamiliar city. Sissy Clemens is the standout here. I caught them live on the rooftop of the Standard Hotel in the East Village back in May, and heard firsthand how powerful and crystalline her voice really is. This band is the real deal.
