  • Not your standard Christmas fare!

    As a choral singer who has to sing Christmas music of all sorts, it is refreshing to come across some nonstandard choral repertoire. Wenceslas is new and yet familiar, thanks to Mr. Chilcott's clever weaving of the well known carol into each movement. Jesus, Springing is becoming more popular (as it should!) and is performed exquisitely here- I especially love the organ here, it is a nice contrast with other versions of Jesus, Springing with piano accompaniment- gives it more of a Christmas-y flavor. My Perfect Stranger takes a few listens to really appreciate, but I've really grown to like it- it's almost an oratorio. The Nine Gifts is quite lovely. And Gloria... well, it might not be the cleanest piece on the album, but you can tell the singers are enthusiastic. :). Highly recommend this album!

    This album of Chilcott music celebrates the season with fresh colors and a clever infusion of traditional yuletide festivity. Lullabies and anthems with tender children’s voices warmed my heart. The music begged me to look at the familiar with new eyes. I look forward to enjoying it all winter long!
