Tool seems to have never sounded the same every time they release an album, but they keep core elements to let you know they’re still Tool. Here, Maynard sings in a hoarse rasp that work well for some of their most vitriolic lyrics (the band’s stock in trade), while sometimes sounding so different you’d assume that it’s another band (on “The Pot”, which I like, he sounds almost like a whiny emo but shapes up by the end). The far out musicality is toned down from Lateralus, but the production sounds excellent especially with the bass. Adam Jones however proves he is this band’s weakest link, as he seemingly can’t play in any key other than D minor, although he can keep time but that’s about it. The only time Jones was any good was on Ænema, and from here he’d somehow get even worse. Adam Jones is the Lars Ulrich of guitar players, save for the fact he can keep time and tempo pretty good. He’s overrated, and he doesn’t even compare to John Petrucci, Dimebag Darrell, or Dave Mustaine. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying Tool, just know that not everyone in the band is a star. This albums pretty awesome, and I don’t think Tool is truly capable of crappy music.

The Pot has to be my favorite off the album!

This album is personally my favorite album by TOOL, the fact that they have only to songs on it that aren't great is a first in their history. I love the lyrics and you don't even need to have knowledge about drugs or anything to relate. The lyrics, vocals, and music all just hit the spot. This is the greatest album of all time.

Vicarious, The Pot, Jambi….just to name a few, are amazing!!! Such an incredibly heavy and talented band!!!
