First Song “Alone” Is Not Good

Had great expectations but the first cut they released “Alone” was disappointing. At best it would have been a weak B side when the Cure was at its prime. Hopefully, the rest of the album will be better. But.. based on this it’s not looking good..
UPDATE..
Unfortunately, I was right. The only quality track on the album is “Endsong.” The others wouldn’t even be B-sides when this band was in their prime.
THE CURE IS BACK, BABY!

BLOODFLOWERS WISHES IT WAS THIS GOOD!
Just when I thought the Cure was creatively spent, they go and release this masterpiece - this latter-day Disintegration! I am loving Simon's snarling bass; in fact, all instruments gel quite well into something much greater than the sum of their parts. Snare tone and tuning fit the sound perfectly (which unfortunately has not been a given as of late). If you, like me, think Wish was the beginning of their decline, this might just be your second or third favorite Cure album!
Where are the guitars?

Best album since Wish, no doubt there. However, the production leaves a bit to be desired. The Cure has (at least to me) always been a guitar driven band. The mix on this album is almost all keys and bass. Respectfully, some of the key sounds are less than inspired. So I’m taking away a star for “those guitars are buried” production, and the lack luster of the key sounds. Still the best work they've put out in a long, long, time. Moving forward, please turn Robert up in the mix. You can leave Reeves, buried in the mix. I’ve never been a fan of him inserting his “style” into Robert’s vision. Yup, I said it!

My favorite Cure album since Disintegration, which is one of my favorite albums of all time. What a fantastic surprise!

Listening to Songs of a Lost World feels just as awesome and wonderful as the first time I listened to Disintegration - an all time favorite of mine regardless of genre. The subject matter hits home on so many levels. If you have experienced loss, give this a listen. Endsong is everything. Absolutely lovely work. Timely. Well done.

After one listen to the new song made me feel like I was young again!! I’m revisiting everything from Three Imaginary Boys thru Bloodflowers. (Which is where I was) Honestly, I thought that was the last record. This new music is Beautiful! Looking forward to the new album. ❤️❤️ Update 11/1/24: Watching the livestream and absolutely amazing. This new record perfectly encapsulates the band’s entire career in 8 beautiful songs. Plus extra performances of classic Cure songs. Definitely worth the wait!!!
If anyone is interested, the live show is FREE to watch on YouTube!!!

We watched a generation grow up and live without security. Prepared for anything. The mysterious pleasure in listening to The Cure, retaining their reason and spiritual independence particularly in a period when confusion and madness are rampant. Not a roadmap, but stories of the journey. Then what? Never mind that, focus on the now, it’s all we have and it’s enough.

This just heir most consistent release. And it’s all morosely beautiful. The production is so 2024 and time jarring at first but it works. Bowie sideman gives them the needed punch he gave Bowie, which seems to have invigorated this band as well. Robert’s voice has never been better, his lyrics never drearier, and Simon’s bass never plunkier. It’s been 16 years and worth the wait.
What a Treat!

Really good songs across this album. Really digging A Fragile Thing amongst some of the other jewels.
