I was super excited for this album, given how incredible his last one and his debut were. Unfortunately, this one does not live up to par. The melodies are fine, some of the earlier songs get super repetitive (including the catchy tittle track), and due to the fact that this is produced in a way where the instrument is at the front and his vocals are way further back, you can’t even focus on the lyrics unless you go and read them. When an album is focused on storytelling - that’s the aspect that should really be brought to the forefront IMO. But sadly, that’s not what happens here. And sadly, his great voice doesn’t shine all that much due to the mixing. Crumbling empire has a cool little riff, great storytelling, and a nice outro. However, it once again suffers from the subdued production. I also enjoyed little bit closer, TV dinner (the first song with fiercePASSION on the album), rein me in (gorgeous track), and remember my name. However, I don’t really think most of these songs compare to his best songs from his previous albums. Overall, this is simply OK album. Pleasant to the ears, good songwriting (obviously), some nice climactic moments and rhythms or riffs here and there, and a charming voice- but not that many memorable moments.

He proves to be a master storyteller following his Seventeen album! Such an amazing combo of songs that are so melodic and have powerful lyrics! He’s the Springsteen of our times!!!
