I lost track of this album for many years. I loved it when it came out - I listened to it again and again. Recently I found myself craving something - I couldn’t place my finger on it. After a few weeks I realized it was “Channels and Winds”, from this album. After listening to the whole album again, it hasn’t lost its majesty, nor its grip on me.

I had heard some Philip Glass before and I have mixed feelings about his atonal compositions. So when I first saw this collaboration many years ago I was extremely skeptical, because Indian ragas are completely opposite. To my surprise, I was completely blown away by this album. If Glass' music is sparse, Ravi Shankar's music fills in the blanks making this a rich tapestry of sound, a sonic equivalent of a Jackson Pollock painting. Thoroughly enjoyable and I am glad that iTunes re-released it.
